One of my biggest projects while I worked at Scripps Interactive was to help oversee the conversion of the ad platform on FoodNetwork.com. I personally rebuilt and deployed all of the ad “widgets” for the website – from right rail to inline content to takeover ads. All in all, I created about 30 different ad units that could be deployed throughout the site.
This was a massive undertaking because it meant taking the existing content and converting it so that it could be used under the new content management system that the site is driven by. There were some technical limitations, but I made sure to build the system in such a manner that it could be flexible for years to come – which it was, because it’s now been 4 years since I built this and it’s still being utilized on the site.
